THE SCHENGEN AGREEMENT REMOVES IMMIGRATION CONTROL BETWEEN MEMBER STATES, EFFECTIVELY CREATING A $$BORDERLESS$$ REGION, KNOWN AS THE $$SCHENGEN AREA$$. THE SCHENGEN MEMBER STATES ARE: AUSTRIA, BELGIUM, CROATIA, CZECHIA, DENMARK, ESTONIA, FINLAND, FRANCE, GERMANY, GREECE, HUNGARY, ICELAND, ITALY, LATVIA, LIECHTENSTEIN, LITHUANIA, LUXEMBOURG, MALTA, NETHERLANDS, NORWAY, POLAND, PORTUGAL, SLOVAKIA, SLOVENIA, SPAIN, SWEDEN AND SWITZERLAND. SCHENGEN MEMBER STATES ISSUE $$A$$, $$C$$ AND $$D$$ VISAS. $$A$$ AIRPORT TRANSIT VISA /ATV/: REQUIRED FOR THOSE NATIONALS IN DIRECT TRANSIT THROUGH AN AIRPORT OF A SCHENGEN MEMBER STATE AND ARRIVING FROM AND DEPARTING TO NON-SCHENGEN MEMBER STATES, WHO ARE NOT PERMITTED TO USE THE TRANSIIT WITHOUT VISA /TWOV/ FACILITY. LEAVING THE AIRPORT IS NOT ALLOWED.

C SCHENGEN VISA: ISSUED FOR TRANSIT THROUGH OR A SHORT STAY IN THE SCHENGEN AREA /MAXIMUM 90 DAYS IN A 180 DAY PERIOD, FROM THE FIRST DAY OF ENTRY INTO THE SCHENGEN AREA/. THE VISA MUST BE VALID FOR THE MEMBER STATE BEING VISITED. A VISA VALID FOR ALL MEMBER STATES WILL BE ENDORSED ETATS SCHENGEN, OR EQUIVALENT IN THE LANGUAGE OF THE ISSUING MEMBER STATE. VISAS WITH LIMITED TERRITORIAL VALIDITY /LTV/ WILL BE MARKED ACCORDINGLY, E.G., FRANCE, WILL BE VALID FOR FRANCE ONLY F-I, WILL BE VALID FOR FRANCE AND ITALY ONLY ETATS SCHENGEN /-F, I/, WILL BE VALID FOR ALL SCHENGEN MEMBER STATES EXCEPT FRANCE AND ITALY.

C VISAS WILL BE VALID FOR A SPECIFIED PERIOD AND WILL INDICATE IF IT ALLOWS SINGLE, DOUBLE OR MULTIPLE ENTRIES. MULTIPLE-ENTRY VISAS ARE VALID FOR A PERIOD BETWEEN 6 MONTHS AND 5 YEARS AND WILL ALSO INDICATE THE MAXIMUM PERMITTED DURATION OF EACH STAY.

C VISAS MUST BE APPLIED FOR AT THE CORRECT EMBASSY/CONSULATE. IF:

I-/ ONLY ONE SCHENGEN MEMBER STATE IS BEING VISITED: APPLICATIONS MUST BE MADE AT THE CONSULATE OR EMBASSY OF THAT PARTICULAR MEMBER STATE

II-/ SEVERAL SCHENGEN MEMBER STATES ARE BEING VISITED: APPLICATIONS MUST BE MADE AT THE CONSULATE OR EMBASSY OF THE MEMBER STATE WHICH IS THE MAIN DESTINATION

III-/ SEVERAL SCHENGEN MEMBER STATES ARE BEING VISITED BUT THERE IS NO MAIN DESTINATION:

- FOR SINGLE-ENTRY VISAS, APPLICATIONS MUST BE MADE AT THE CONSULATE OR EMBASSY OF THE MEMBER STATE WHICH IS THE FIRST POINT OF ENTRY INTO THE SCHENGEN AREA OR

- FOR MULTIPLE-ENTRY VISAS, APPLICATIONS MUST BE MADE AT THE MEMBER STATE EXPECTED TO BE VISITED ON THE VERY FIRST ENTRY INTO THE SCHENGEN AREA.

SCHENGEN APPROVED DESTINATION SCHEME /ADS/ TOURIST GROUP VISAS ARE C VISAS WITH ADS OR SDA IN THE REMARKS SECTION OF THE VISA. THE GROUP MUST TRAVEL AS A COMPLETE GROUP AT ALL TIMES.

WHEN MEMBER STATES DO NOT HAVE REPRESENTATION IN A COUNTRY, SCHENGEN VISAS WILL BE ISSUED BY REPRESENTATION OF THE MEMBER STATE THAT ISSUES VISAS ON THEIR BEHALF. IN SUCH CASES, THE REMARKS SECTION OF THE VISA WILL BE MARKED WITH R FOLLOWED BY THE CODE FOR THE MEMBER STATE ON WHOSE BEHALF THE VISA WAS ISSUED. FOR EXAMPLE, IF AN AUSTRIAN EMBASSY HAS ISSUED A VISA ON BEHALF OF GERMANY, THE REMARKS SECTION WILL CONTAIN R DEU.

THE FIRST POINT OF ENTRY INTO THE SCHENGEN AREA DEPENDS ON THE NUMBER OF MEMBER STATES BEING VISITED, THE AMOUNT OF ENTRIES /SINGLE, DOUBLE OR MULTIPLE/ AND WHETHER A MAIN DESTINATION HAS BEEN INDICATED, OR NOT. FALSE ITINERARIES PROVIDED AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION COULD LEAD TO DENIED ENTRY AND CANCELLATION OF THE VISA.$$D$$ LONG STAY NATIONAL VISA: THIS IS NOT A SCHENGEN VISA BUT A VISA ISSUED FOR A LONGER PERIOD BY AN INDIVIDUAL SCHENGEN MEMBER STATE AND IS INDICATED AS BEING ONLY VALID FOR THE COUNTRY OF ISSUE. WITHIN THE VALIDITY PERIOD OF THE VISA, $$D$$ VISAS ALLOW UNRESTRICTED, MULTIPLE ENTRIES INTO THE ISSUING MEMBER STATE, AS WELL AS ENTRY INTO OTHER MEMBER STATES, FOR A MAXIMUM STAY OF 90 DAYS IN A 180 DAY PERIOD.

CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH RE-ROUTING PASSENGERS FROM THEIR ORIGINAL ITINERARY TO ENSURE THAT THEY HAVE THE CORRECT VISA.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

- VALID VISAS IN FULL, INVALIDATED TRAVEL DOCUMENTS ARE ACCEPTED IF ACCOMPANIED BY A NEW TRAVEL DOCUMENT.

- PASSENGERS ENTERING SWITZERLAND ON A ONE-WAY TICKET CAN BE QUESTIONED ABOUT THE PURPOSE AND CONDITIONS OF THE INTENDED STAY. THEY COULD BE RETURNED TO FIRST EMBARKATION POINT AT THE COST OF THE CARRIER THAT BROUGHT THEM TO SWITZERLAND IF THEY DO NOT:

- JUSTIFY THEIR STAY

- PROVIDE AN ADDRESS OF A GUARANTOR IN SWITZERLAND

- HAVE PROOF OF FUNDS TO BUY A RETURN/ONWARD TICKET OR TO COVER THEIR STAY IN SWITZERLAND.

- GENEVA AIRPORT /GVA/ IS LOCATED IN SWITZERLAND BUT HAS EXITS TO BOTH SWITZERLAND AND FRANCE.

A. WHEN ARRIVING ON AN INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT /EXCEPT FRANCE/, PASSENGERS MUST EXIT THE AIRPORT THROUGH SWITZERLAND.

B. WHEN ARRIVING ON A FLIGHT FROM FRANCE, PASSENGERS CAN EXIT THE AIRPORT THROUGH SWITZERLAND OR FRANCE.

- AT BASLE/MULHOUSE/FREIBURG AIRPORT /BSL/, PASSENGERS CAN EXIT THE AIRPORT THROUGH SWITZERLAND OR FRANCE.

WARNING:

- PASSPORTS AND/OR PASSPORT REPLACING DOCUMENTS ISSUED MORE THAN 10 YEARS PRIOR TO DATE OF ENTRY ARE NOT ACCEPTED.

- VISITORS NOT HOLDING RETURN/ONWARD TICKETS COULD BE REFUSED ENTRY.

- SCHENGEN C TYPE VISAS MUST BE VALID FOR THE VISITED SCHENGEN MEMBER STATE. THIS IS SPECIFIED IN THE VALID FOR FIELD OF THE VISA.

VISA TRANSIT SWITZERLAND /CH/

VISA REQUIRED, EXCEPT FOR PASSENGERS WITH A RESIDENCE PERMIT ISSUED BY SWITZERLAND.

TWOV /TRANSIT WITHOUT VISA/:

VISA REQUIRED, EXCEPT FOR PASSENGERS TRANSITING THROUGH GENEVA /GVA/ AND ARRIVING FROM A NON-SCHENGEN MEMBER STATE WITH A CONFIRMED ONWARD TICKET FOR A FLIGHT ON THE SAME CALENDAR DAY TO A THIRD COUNTRY WHICH IS NOT A SCHENGEN MEMBER STATE. THEY MUST:

- STAY IN THE INTERNATIONAL TRANSIT AREA OF THE AIRPORT, AND

- HAVE DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR THEIR NEXT DESTINATION.

VISA REQUIRED, EXCEPT FOR PASSENGERS TRANSITING THROUGH ZURICH /ZRH/ AND ARRIVING FROM A NON-SCHENGEN MEMBER STATE WITH A CONFIRMED ONWARD TICKET FOR A FLIGHT TO A THIRD COUNTRY WHICH IS NOT A SCHENGEN MEMBER STATE. THEY MUST:

- STAY IN THE INTERNATIONAL TRANSIT AREA OF THE AIRPORT, AND

- HAVE DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR THEIR NEXT DESTINATION.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

- CHANGES OF ONWARD RESERVATIONS AT THE TRANSIT STATION /I.E. ONCE THE PASSENGER HAS ARRIVED IN SWITZERLAND/ ARE NOT ALLOWED.

- PASSENGERS ENTERING SWITZERLAND ON A ONE-WAY TICKET CAN BE QUESTIONED ABOUT THE PURPOSE AND CONDITIONS OF THE INTENDED STAY. THEY COULD BE RETURNED TO FIRST EMBARKATION POINT AT THE COST OF THE CARRIER THAT BROUGHT THEM TO SWITZERLAND IF THEY DO NOT:

- JUSTIFY THEIR STAY
